Just a Few of Our Favorite Things …

Since Thanksgiving, we’ve received dozens and dozens of emails from companies just like ours with special offers, seasonal promotions, giveaways and coupons. Of course, we love sales, and we’ll be having a few our own in the next few days/weeks, but this holiday season, instead of the traditional “buy some nifty stuff” sales pitch, we’d rather help promote some of our favorite companies and causes.

So … without further ado … here are a few of our favorite things (in no particular order):

1. Sidewalk Dog

These folks are just the best. Their company, Sidewalk Dog Media, does all kinds of cool stuff for dogs (and people) in Minneapolis. You’ve probably heard of them … maybe even seen our signature ZigZag swag once or twice in a Free Stuff Friday promo featured on their Facebook page? (Speaking of which, you should like their page … they’re really nice.)

Sidewalk Dog knows absolutely everything there is to know about being a dog in the Twin Cities … where to go, what to do, where to find adoptable people … in short, the works. What they don’t have, however, is sufficient backing for their Kickstarter campaign. They’re trying to raise funds for a new website and grow their business of helping homeless dogs in rescues and shelters. Here’s the video:

Their fundraising deadline is only a few days away, and they REALLY need your help. So if you’re feeling especially cheery this holiday season, why not spare a few dollars to help their great cause? Pretty sure it will guarantee you a spot on Santa’s nice list.

2. WagAware

We’ve mentioned these guys before. What’s not to love about this organization? Basically, it’s perfect … ahem … we mean, pawfect. WagAware donates 50% of its profits to shelters, rescue groups, and animal welfare organizations. So buy a charm, save a dog, and feel great about yourself despite gaining an extra 12 pounds over the holidays.

3. Wings of Rescue

It’s always an amazing thing to rescue an animal in need, but most of us don’t get a chance to literally fly in on private plane in and save the day. Volunteer pilots (with planes) run the Wings of Rescue organization, and provide air transportation for thousands of animals from high kill shelters in California … and by “thousands,” we don’t mean one or two, we mean 16,489 (as of December 15, 2015) … an impressive feat to say the least. As you can imagine though, private planes, health care, food, and all the other extras involved in this type of rescue can get a little pricey, and Wings or Rescue can always use some help. They accept donations via PayPal and through their website, and even a gift of $25 or $50 will make a big difference.

4. KC Pet Project

We’re sending a little shout out to a hometown favorite this holiday season with some link love. KC Pet Project is a nonprofit charitable organization that facilitates pet adoption through their local shelter – the largest no-kill animal shelter in Kansas City. If you’re thinking about getting a pet, there’s never been a better time or a better place to find one. We give KC Pet Project two paws up, and you should too.
